Hoplites Experience near Taranto (Soldiers of Magna Graecia )

Description

We will return to the time of Taras, as if we were travelling in an unbelievable time machine, to the today’s Taranto city, founded by the Spartans in the 8th century B.C. After wearing the period clothes, and being armed and equipped, we will live a real hoplite experience of Magna Graecia, at a time when the population of Taranto, of Greek descent, fiercely opposed the Roman army. We will join the training on how to use the spear, the shield (oplon) and the bow with the master of ancient weapons. We will recall the religious rites and the myths of the ancient Taras and we will get to know our fellow travelers. We will switch between historical reconstructions and moments of “combat” in the archaeological outdoor sites, but also we will live experiences of everyday life by tasting the typical local farmer dishes offered in an outdoor refreshment point. The experience is suitable for both men and women and children.

Costs 

The cost is € 25 per person for a minimum of 10 participants and a max. of 30.

For children aged 8 to 12 the cost is € 10 ; free for children younger than 8 years old. 

Tastings and aperitifs are included in the price.

Starting time

The experience have a duration of about 3 hours. Experience available starting from Easter time to October.

Cancellation

By completing the payment, you agree to the Terms of Use. In case of cancellation, only the deposit is lost. Cancellation is possible up to 24 hours before midnight on the date of the activity by writing to PlacenPeople and the Organizer (e.g. activities on July 5th, cancellation possible until July 3rd). This activity depends on the weather conditions: in case the organizer judges the ctivity not feasible, he can propose to postpone it or, if impossible, can cancel it (with full refund).
