Description

The underground part of Bari is very fascinating, and suitable for those who do not like to walk long distances. Together with one of our expert guides, you will be able to see 4 different stages (one of which can be chosen from two options). Our organizer will take care of verifying the opening of the entrances to the various planned stages, which are as follows:

1) MUSEUM OF THE SUCCORPO (CRYPT) OF THE CATHEDRAL: visit of the archaeological area below the current cathedral of Bari. Here are preserved the mosaic floors dating back to the fifth and sixth centuries, part of the walls and fresco decoration that belonged to the first city cathedral. The remains of a church from the 10th century can be visited in the same area.

2) SIMI PALACE: visit to the exhibition of the finds found during the works carried out by the superintendency and the archaeological area below which preserves the remains of a church from the 10th / 11th century.

3) SANTA MARIA DEL BUON CONSIGLIO: a small archaeological area where an ancient church once stood, in the oldest part of the city, and here archaeologists have identified the first settlements of the Bronze Age. You will be able to admire the splendid pavement that has been preserved over time, and see the complex archaeological stratification in this “open-air” church.

4.a) NORMAN SWABIAN CASTLE: visit of the rooms of the castle and of the plaster cast gallery. Visit of the archaeological area with the remains of the church of Sant’Apollinare (X / XI century) and the exhibition of the finds found in the castle and in the surrounding areas.

4.b) ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM: archaeological areas inside the former convent of Santa Scholastica (now home to the museum) and exhibitions.

Costs 

The participation fee for a cultural (walking) tour of Bari to see the underground Bari is €30 per person and includes the activity of the tourist guide, while it does not include the entrances to the various monuments, which are among 6 and 12 euros depending on the route you choose to follow (the 4th stage is to be chosen between two options). The single prices of the entrance tickets are generally the following (subject to possible variations): Museum of the Succorpo of the cathedral (3 euros), Palazzo Simi (free), Swabian Castle (9 euros), Archaeological Museum (3 euros). Discounts are possible for big groups.

Starting time

The tours last approximately 2 hours, and almost all PlacenPeople organizers leave freedom of choice on the departure time. Available all year round.

How to get there

The underground visit of Bari will start on the surface, and on foot together with the guide you will discover all the most important points of the underground part. The PlacenPeople organizer will ensure that you do not waste your time in places of lesser value, but are taken to the most important places. However it will go at your own pace! If you want to stay longer in a specific place, it will be possible to do so. You will meet your guide at the agreed point and time and the tour will begin. If you (or your group) are the only participants, you can propose to the guide a particular point and time for the meeting.

Cancellation

By completing the payment, you agree to the Terms of Use. In case of cancellation, only the deposit is lost. Cancellation is possible up to 24 hours before midnight on the date of the activity by writing to PlacenPeople and the Organizer (e.g. activities on July 5th, cancellation possible until July 3rd).
