Description

Pizzica is a traditional Apulian folk dance and music, originally conceived as a form of exorcism to free oneself from the bite of the tarantula spider, but over time it has also become a form of expression and celebration of popular culture.

Pizzica has ancient roots, dating back to the 16th century, and was mainly practiced in the rural areas of Puglia, especially during periods of religious festivals, such as the one dedicated to San Paolo on 29 June and that of Santa Domenica on 6 July.

Traditional instruments used to accompany the pizzica include the “tamburello” or “tamburello pizzica,” a frame drum with rattles inside, and the “chitarra battente,” an acoustic guitar typical of the Apulian folk tradition.

In recent decades, the pizzica has been re-evaluated and reinterpreted by contemporary artists, mixing with other musical genres and finding a wider audience. His presence has been reported at folk music and world music festivals around the world.

Costs 

The cost is € 20 per person for a minimum of 2 participants, and includes the lesson by the dancer.

Starting time

The departure time can be agreed with the organizer. The experience is available all year round.

The organizers speak Italian, interpreter on request.

How to book

Cancellation

By completing the payment, you agree to the Terms of Use. In case of cancellation, only the deposit is lost. Cancellation is possible up to 24 hours before midnight on the date of the activity by writing to PlacenPeople and the Organizer (e.g. activities on July 5th, cancellation possible until July 3rd).
